Public Toilets
After a very long delay, the public toilets in Tooreen, at the western end of Sheep's Head were officially opened, in December 2003, by Denis O'Donovan T.D.
Great credit is due the this sub-committee. Chairperson, Jenny Barry, members, Agnes Hegarty, Mary Hegarty and Susanne Whitty for their untiring efforts.
Objectives:
To provide public toilets for Kilcrohane Village and for the turning place at the end of Sheep's Head (Toureen).
To find out what funding is available from local and national government for provision of toilets.
To find a suitable site for the location of the toilets.
To find the necessary funds to meet any shortfall in funding for these buildings.
To maintain any toilets provided.
Success to date:
Cork County Council will provide some funding towards the building and maintenance of public toilets that are built or provided by other bodies. They will not build or provide toilets themselves.
Approval and permission has been obtained from the various owners of land at Toureen for the use of a piece of their land to build public toilets.
Plans for three toilets (men, women and handicapped) have been presented to the Cork County Council for Planning Permission.
Discussions with the Kilcrohane Development Association have led to an agreement to make the toilets at the Kilcrohane playground available to the general public on the understanding that the Community Council will maintain them.
This is work is ongoing.
