Objectives:

To prepare an event to mark the start of the new millennium.

Success to date:

Contact was made between the Minister of the Church of Ireland Church in Durrus, Rev Paul Willoughby and the Catholic Parish Priest in Durrus, Fr. Liam Crowley, regarding a joint event for the 31st December 1999.

An ecumenical prayer service was held on the top of the Goat's Path at approximately 4.30pm on New Year's Eve 1999, with a large number of people from Sheep's head and Bantry partaking. A number of visitors to the area for the festive season also took part. Fortunately, the rain held off from 4.00pm onwards and allowed the short service to take place at the setting of the sun.

This sub-committee has now terminated it's work. It is due to be reconvened in the autumn of 2999!!.
