2004:Cork County Council are building eight houses in Kilcrohane village presently. After consultation with the Community Council two of these have been designated for lone elderly
Objectives:
To investigate the need for sheltered housing for lone elderly in the area.
To find out what funding is available from local and national government.
To find a suitable site for the location of these houses if a need is established.
To find the necessary funds to meet any shortfall in funding for these buildings.
Success to date:
Initial contacts with people involved with the elderly in the area assured
us that there is a need for sheltered housing for people who do not need full-time
hospital care, but who would benefit from living in a situation with more
people nearby.
Cork County Council will provide a large amount of the funds needed for the
building of these houses. Additional funding would have to be raised.
The site for the houses will probably have to be funded by the Community Council.
The possibility that use could be made of existing Cork County Council land
is being investigated.
This is work is ongoing.
